algarve beachIf you are a parent, quite often all you want from a holiday is for your kids to enjoy it. But finding somewhere where they will like is the million dollar question and often almost impossible. But before you give up and head to that holiday park down the road out of sheer desperation, consider Portugal, and in particular the Algarve region. Just like cheap Lanzarote holidays and other popular worldwide destinations, the Algarve has a lot to offer the younger traveller. And parents alike.

Child Friendly Beaches

Albufeira, in the centre of the Algarve, offers an excellent selection of beaches suitable for families right on its doorstep. Just 2km east of the town is the resort of Oura which is always popular with adventure seeking kids looking for the best in water sport opportunities. Olhos d’Água is another decent beach found just down the road. Alternatively, head west to the resort of Vilamoura. All Algarve beaches have golden sand and facilities that will appeal to families, such as nearby restaurants, water sports and blue flag winning seas.

Water Parks

aqualand algarveIt is more or less a proven fact that kids love water and big slides, which is why combing the two to create water parks is something parents will be eternally grateful for! And to the relief of everyone who visits the Algarve, there is a massive water park which draws in the crowds year after year. Aqualand can be reached by bus from all the major towns such as Albufeira, Vilamoura, Lagos and Portimão amongst others and is home to slides such as the Kamikaze, Flying Carpets and the Crazy Race. The park is open from June to September so whenever you visit during the summer season you will be able to treat the kids in this very popular attraction.

Zoos and Animal Parks

Children always take a big interest in animals, so finding a zoo when on holidays is always a good idea. Fortunately, the Algarve has more than just one option in this regard. ZooMarine combines a marine centre, zoo and amusement park which sounds like a real child friendly winner! Algarve Zoo and Lagos zoo are more traditional places to visit, with apes, snakes and other wonderful creatures on show. The ZooMarine has daily dolphin and sea lion shows so make sure you catch one of those when visiting.

The Algarve has long been a family favourite holiday destination for cheap Portugal holidays, and when looking at the facilities and attractions it is not hard to see why.
