You don’t have to recreate the set of Bachelor Party to have a great weekend bash. To be honest, overwhelming is overrated. Why do so many things you don’t have time to enjoy any of them – or get so drunk you can’t remember? That’s like eating too much and then throwing up. A waste of time, money and pleasure potential.
So here’s my prescription for the perfect weekend. Take two activities, slowly, and enjoy the hell out of them. It’s that simple.
I would advise starting with an outdoor activity, something like paintballing or quad biking or rapid river rafting. Something you wouldn’t normally have the chance to do, which you’re going to enjoy immensely. I honestly don’t think it has to be something that everyone in the group thinks they will enjoy either. For a start, if no one has ever done it before then they don’t know if they are going to enjoy it – so claiming they won’t is just childish (unless it’s abseiling and they’re afraid of heights, in which case fair enough). And even if they don’t, they can always stop. It’s your weekend party, you do what you want.
Doing something you like, rather than something everyone likes, is also a great way to make organising the thing easier in the first place. The weekend party is notoriously difficult to put together because you are trying to juggle so many people’s schedules and preferences. What you need to remember, as I say, is that it’s your party – so the others can put up, shut up or not come. They’re supposed to be your friends, after all.
An outdoor activity is great for blowing away the cobwebs from the inevitable first night drinking session. If it’s something you have never done before, though, it will take you a couple of hours (at least, if you have a hangover) to get the hang of it and start enjoying it. So book four hours of it. Then you can enjoy the last two hours and feel you really got something out of it.
Now it’s time to move indoors. You’ve been running around firing paint at one another for the whole morning, you’re exhausted and your hangover has disappeared. Time, methinks, to get down to a cocktail bar for a pre-booked cocktail making lesson!
That’s right – make like Tom Cruise in Cocktail and you’ll be wowing the ladies in no time. A cocktail making class can last for around three hours, including a massive pizza and wedges buffet and plenty of drink making tuition – plus you get to learn all the fun stuff, like bouncing cocktail shakers off of bounce mats, chucking bottles around and making a row of shots depth charge like dominoes. Plus you get free drinks and you can consume all the cocktails you have made!
By now it will be evening, and time to get your dancing hat on. You might as well start off in the bar where you learned your lessons. Use up your free vouchers and then head out to a recommended night club for a boogie.
Recommendation is key here. If you’re in a strange city, don’t assume you are going to find the best night spots. Ask. Some weekend party packages will even recommend their own. Yes, that means the whole thing is syndicated – but it also guarantees that you will be in a weekend party friendly environment!
